Great audio quality that even an adult will enjoy, with some limitations.

The Puro Sound Labs BT2200 have a generally balanced sound signature that’s suitable for all music genres.

Moreover, the vocals are forward and clean, making them the centerpiece of many songs.

Highs don’t distort and stay in optimal range while still capable of some sparkle.

The bass has a punch but isn’t overpowering or too emphasized. It’s a fun sound signature that’s suitable for music, cartoons, and binding on YouTube videos.

For these reasons, they create a versatile pair of headphones that more than satisfy a kids’ need for sound quality.

The only thing that bothers…

When playing music silently, the background hissing noise comes up and veils the music. If you listen carefully, it’s always there but harder to hear at higher volumes.

Nonetheless, a kid probably won’t notice or complain about it, but an adult might.

Comfort & Fit

The headphones are big enough to fit an adult, though their on-ear design doesn’t offer all-day comfort, which is probably a good thing.

Let me explain.

Usually, we want comfortable headphones that you can wear for hours without discomfort.

But when it comes to kids, it’s best to limit their use of electronics. Young minds are impressionable and need to be protected.

While the Puro Sound Labs BT2200 are plenty comfortable, the on-ear design will create a bit of discomfort after a while.

And this is a good thing. It’s more likely your kid will put down their phone or tablet and go do something else after an hour or two.

The on-ear earpads…

The difference between on-ear and over-ear headphones is their earcup size.

The BT2200 on-ears aren’t much smaller than in grown-up headphones, so a parent could put them on if needed.

They’re padded with foam and faux leather, so they look quite a bit fancy because of it.

Also, the leather headband extends quite considerably, so they fit an adult head, although a bit tightly.

While the build quality is solid, the smaller earcups still make them relatively lightweight. Your kid won’t complain about it.

What’s in the Box?

Durability

Kids headphones with high build quality and a nice finish but also some reservations.

By the looks of them, the Puro Sound Labs BT2200 look like a premium pair of headphones.

The plastics have a shiny finish, the buttons have a metal look, and all the padding is covered by faux leather.

And they feel sturdy too. The headband extension offers quite a bit of feedback, it’s flexible, and there’s no cracking.

The only question is, how long will the white faux leather last?

On some headphones, it lasts for years. On some, it starts flaking sooner. And flaky leather is the worst thing to clean up as it gets everywhere.

Plus, what will happen to the white leather and shiny finish if your kid throws them around?

These are some things to think about. But generally, they’re perfect for an older kid that is somewhat responsible.

Nonetheless, the only thing missing is water protection. Your kid can be responsible, but clumsy moments still happen. You don’t want to waste $100 headphones because of an accidental water spill.

Battery

In our test, we got 18 hours and 21 minutes from 100% to 0%. This is close to the promised battery life of 20 hours.

Granted, we put the headphones at max volume because 85 dB is lower than usual. If you listen to music at a lower volume, you will get over 20 hours of playtime.

This is plenty of time for kids’ headphones and ensures you don’t have to charge them too often.

In case the battery dies, you can use them with a cable while keeping the volume limiter. Most other headphones lose the volume limiting feature if their battery dies, not the BT2200.

You charge them with a USB to Micro-USB cable, though there’s no quick charging capability or wireless charging.

Features

You get a built-in microphone, stable Bluetooth, foldable design, and sturdy controls. But can’t change songs.

One thing your kid will appreciate is how simple it is to turn them on and off.

Many modern Bluetooth headphones require you to press and hold the power button for a specific number of seconds. This procedure might be a bit challenging for a 3-year-old, for example.

Instead, Puro BT2200 have a prominent on and off switch button with clear marks on which is on and off.

Plus, the LED indicator slowly blinks when they’re on. This makes it much simpler for younger kids to understand when the wireless headphones are turned on or off.

Additionally, you can control the volume with + and – buttons by pressing them. A beep indicates once you reach max volume.

One thing’s missing…

Usually, the built-in controls can also change the songs forward and back, but not Puro BT2200.

You’re left with the basic functionality:

• Play/pause music
• Start pairing mode
• Answer/reject phone calls
• Send a phone call to your phone or back to the headset
• Increase/decrease volume

There’s a unique feature

The Puro Sound Labs BT2200 can be used to share its music with another pair of headphones.

You connect them with either Bluetooth or a 3.5mm AUX cable and then use the Micro-USB to Micro-USB cable to connect the second headphones.

Granted, it only works for headphones that have a micro-USB port, but it’s an excellent way for 2 kids to watch and listen to the same thing simultaneously.

Effective Volume Limiter

The headphones are limited to a max 85 dB volume whether you use Bluetooth or the 3.5mm cable.

A lot of volume limiters in headphones for kids only work in wireless mode, but not Puro BT2200.

For the wired volume limiting to work, you have to use the cable inside the package and plug it in the right way.

The L-shaped plug goes into your phone or tablet, the straight plug goes into the headphones. And keep them turned off.

Microphone Quality

Below is the built-in microphone test of Puro Sound Labs BT2200.

The built-in mic is more than good enough for phone calls in a quiet room, though it does pick up more ambient noise.

Noise Isolation

Closed-back ear cups and the tight fit provide substantial passive noise isolation.

The passive noise isolation of the Puro Sound Labs BT2200 is better than expected.

Thanks to closed-back earcups and supple padding, the headphones block quite a bit of ambient noise.

And this is good because kids’ ears are extra sensitive to high volumes.

On the other hand, over-ear headphones like the BuddyPhones Cosmos+ isolate slightly better.

Bluetooth

Solid Bluetooth performance with typical range and signal strength. But also a silent humming sound in the background. More info below.

The newest Puro Sound Labs BT2200 models have Bluetooth 5.0 which has better range and stability than previous versions.

The connection stayed perfectly stable in the average range of around 33ft (10m) in our test.

You can listen to music even at around 50ft (15m), but further than that, it starts distorting and eventually disconnects.

Moreover, the range naturally shortens when you put a wall between the headphones and your music device.

Bluetooth keeps working normally over 1 wall, but problems ensue when you introduce the 2^nd wall.

Though don’t think this is bad, it’s a typical performance of modern Bluetooth headphones.

How do you connect the Puro Sound Labs BT2200?

1. Turn them on with the on/off switch
2. Press and hold the Bluetooth button to start pairing mode (LED blinks blue)
3. Find a new Bluetooth device on your phone or tablet
4. Tap to pair

When you turn them on for the first time, they automatically go into pairing mode.

One thing that isn’t perfect

When connected with Bluetooth, there’s a silent hissing noise in the background after pausing the music. It lasts only a couple of seconds and probably won’t bother your kid too much.

Even so, we remember this “feature” from the past when Bluetooth headphones were a novelty. Modern models have fixed it, so we consider it a negative from a past era if we see it today.

Is There Delay When Watching Video?

There’s no delay when watching videos. Watching YouTube or Tik Tok is a non-issue.

Additionally, since kids usually aren’t focused on high sound quality, only the primary SBC Bluetooth codec is supported, and that’s fine.

If you want kids headphones that fit a young 3-year-old and an early teenager, up to possibly adult age, then the Puro Sound Labs BT2200 are a great choice.
